Should you find this blog while perusing PC Journals, I hope this timeline puts your fears to rest while you wait- and wait, and wait- through what will most likely prove to be a year (we're talking 365 days) long application process. This was my experience...

May 24, 2010 Began online application, requested letters of recommendation shortly thereafter.

June 19, 2010 Application submitted online.

July 7, 2010 Interviewed at PC Office in Oakland.

September 15, 2010 Nominated to serve as a Health Extension Volunteer in Asia, departing in July.

November 2010 Submitted medical evaluation packet.

February 24, 2011 Follow up information requested to complete medical evaluation.

March 18, 2011 Medically cleared.

April 6, 2011 Final phone interview and invited to be an Health Extension Volunteer in Central Asia, departing in September, and Received email asking for updated resume and final transcripts.

April 16, 2011 Received my big blue invitation envelope!

April 18, 2011 Officially became part of the Peace Corps after submitting acceptance email!

April 21, 2011 Submitted resume and Aspiration Statement to Turkmenistan Office.

May 15, 2011 Graduated from college!

August 9, 2011 Informed by Peace Corps that Turkmenistan was closing and not accepting new PCVs, but I would receive a new placement.

August 10, 2011 Received placement for Tanzania, staging October 10, 2011.

August 11, 2011 Accepted placement, submitted resume and Aspiration Statement to Tanzania Country Desk, mailed Tanzanian Visa application to SATO.

September 9, 2011 Submitted proof of receiving Yellow Fever vaccine, necessary before PC will make travel arrangements. Vaccines are not cheap. New insight on why providing medications and vaccines in poor countries is so difficult.

September 12, 2011 Called SATO to make travel arrangements for getting to Staging in Philadelphia.

October 9, 2011 Fly to Philidelphia for Staging.

October 10-11, 2011 Staging.

October 13, 2011 Arrive in Dar, Tanzania; begin PST.

December 14, 2011 Swear in at the US Embassy to become an official Peace Corps Volunteer.

December 16, 2011 Moved into my site.
